The Wordicle’s Author’s Leak presents
Lara Rouse and her book “Human Darkness.”
This is more than just a poem on nature book. Please read what the author has to say about her fascinating book.
From the author, Lara Rouse:
“Human Darkness is a poetry series that caricatures the parts of people that reside in the shadows, gnawing feelings that hurt us or cause us to hurt others. I hope to maybe air out these feelings, to give us a safe space to go, “Oh, I feel like that,” and maybe deal with those feelings or to benefit from the catharsis of seeing something that’s been done to us told in this intimately symbolic format.
I don’t know how this will impact readers’ feelings about the book, but I believe comparing human feelings to animals in this particular way was subconsciously inspired by an educational book I read as a child where you lifted flaps that looked like an animal at rest or an animal habitat and there would be the animal underneath describing what their lives were like. Well, this is an adult version of that, lifting a figurative flap over things in us that normally don’t see the light of days.
I presented the poems as a whole, a jumble of negative sides of ourselves, so we can interact with these feelings however fits us, a personal walk through a dark forest. Ideally, readers will come out of the forest feeling a little fresher.”
