“The Preparations has a special place in my heart because it is the book that made me an author. It is also the first book in my debut saga, The Legacy Series.

I’m very passionate about storytelling and always dreamed of having my work published someday. However, as is the case with many writers, I had a collection of book outlines, half-written short stories, and unfinished scripts nowhere near ready for publication. The Preparations might have ended up in this pile, but there was something particularly intriguing about this story and I knew I needed to finish telling it.

Throughout the writing process, I enjoyed developing The Land of The Clan and creating the history of the people who live there. I designed their culture to be something that my readers would believe and understand.

Similarly, when creating the main character, Myra, I didn’t want her to be perfect. What I was trying to capture was a protagonist that readers could identify with. She doesn’t always make the right choice, but her will to succeed and press forward is something everyone can relate to.

I finished writing the entire series before I began looking into the publication process. This ended up being an excellent strategy since it allowed me to tweak the earlier books as the story developed. There is nothing I enjoy more than hiding secrets that will only be discovered with a second read-through of the series. The Preparations is full of these little Easter eggs for readers to enjoy.

Doing something for the first time is always a challenge, and publishing The Preparations was no exception. I decided to take the self-published route and turn my leisurely activity into an extreme hobby. Over the past few years, I have had to learn how to format, market, design book covers, and promote my series. I’ve made mistakes and experienced failures but also learned a lot about myself in the process.

When people read The Preparations, I hope they will not only enjoy the adventure they get to go on, but will also be challenged to consider the bigger questions that Myra struggles with while trying to fulfill her role within The Clan. This is a great coming-of-age story that is enjoyable for teens, young adults, and their parents alike.

I have currently published three books from the series and am working on the fourth. Once the last book is published, The Legacy Series will be finished, but my journey as an author will have only just begun.”
